Gaushala - A Laboratory For Rural Studies

During last 50 years we taught this need based, live and useful subject to about 3000 graduated students i.e. 60 graduated per year. This subject is taught to all the under graduated and post graduated students. The special knowledge of this subject is offered to 20 students and hence well trained student of this special subject are provided to the society and they are doing excellent work in the field of animal husbandary development

At present we are producing yearly 1,00,000 liters of milk.

Supply of good animals to farmers and other breeder : Up till now we have given 100 pedigree bulls to village panchayats, Govt.A.I/Centers and local breeders at concessional rate. As a result of our works surrounding 20 villages have pure Gir pedigree animals and 500 good crossbred cattle.

Fodder production and silage making : New improved varieties of grasses and folder are introduction in the area. Latest grass varieties of CO-1 hybrid Napier grass give 100 tones of green fodder per year from 1 acre of land.

Soil conservation work done in this department much appreciated and found most useful.

This Dairy farm has proved to be a place of pilgrimage and learning center for students and farmers too. Problems of cattle breeders are easily solved.

Achivement in the Research work are :

 » Reduction of age of first calving 45 months to 35 months.
 » Interval between two calving from 15 months to 13 months.
 » Dehorning - Dewormning and vaccination of animals.
 » Feeding of animal according to age group and need of the class.
 » Marketing of milk and milk products.
 » Feeding of balanced cattle feed and non-traditional feeds such as by pass 
     protein.
 » Grass land improvements.

Vaccination Camp : The students go to the surrounding 20 villages and provide more than 3500 vaccine. The self confidence and skill of vaccination is having developed in the students.

Cattle diagnosis and treatment camp : The cattle of the surrounding villages are treated in our dairy farm .All types of treatment is given to more than 2000 Cattle and medicines are provided. Minor and major operations are held with the help of expert invited veterinary doctors. the exhibition of the chart of various diseases and its remedies is arranged. The lectures are held for the students.

Processing Unit : Various products such as Ice-cream, Candy, Flavored milk, Penda, Shrikhand ect. are prepared when the surplus milk is available. Our aim is that by doing this, the students avail knowledge about the process of preparation, cost benefit ratio, market know-how etc. After their graduation if any student do not get the job, he can start such a processing unit of his own and have self employment.
