Main Objectives of Agriculture sector:

To make up the deficit : In the beginning the
institution used to get fixed
grant. Then it was 70%. From 1984, 100% grant is being
given. From 1953
to 1984 the deficit in the grant was made up from the
income of agriculture.

Maintenance of the infrastructure: Institutional
buildings, repairs thereof,
health care, roads, water supply etc. require money to
be spent every year.
These expenses are expected to be met from the income of
agriculture.

Practical training of agriculture: In the four
educational sections, the main craft is agriculture.
Besides the experiments, demonstrations and subject-
teaching, a separate agriculture section is necessary.

Extension : It is an important task of agriculture
section to take new seeds, new methods and systems, new
crops etc. produced or researched elsewhere to the
surrounding areas as also to make experiments, to hold
demonstrations, to sell seeds etc. |
Experiments And Demonstrations
In order to acquaint the students coming from all over Gujarat with various
crops, and to provide them experience to take care of those crops, many
experiment and demonstration are carried out as under

Cereal Crops : Bajri, Jovar, Wheat, maize. |

Pulse Crops : Moong (green grun), Back Grum, Gram, Tuver,
Val, Choli. |

Oil-seeds Crops : Tal, groundout, Soyabean, Sunflower. |

Cash rops : Cotton, Castor, Mustard. |
|

Spicy crops : Cumin, Coriander seeds, Isabgul. |
|

Fruit-tree crops : Mango, Chikoo, Coconut, Custard Apple,
Berries. |

Vegetable Crops : Brinjal, Chilli, Tomato, Gourd, Ladies
finger, Raddish,
Carrot. |

Fodder Crops : Rajko, Maize, Jowar, Oats, Rajka-Bajari |
