About Us

Lok Bharti : The beginning

Like the legendary Trivikram, the Vaman Avatar of lord Vishnu, Shri Nanabhai Bhatt took three steps that changed forever the face of Indian rural education.

One, he left his prestigious professorship and diverted all his time and energy into establishing Dakshinamurti Vidhyarthi Bhavan.

Two, he left the prosperous Dakshinamurti which was in town and came to Ambla village.

Three, at the age of 71, with a strength of willpower befitting a young man, he started Lok Bharti at Sanosara.

Inaugurated on 28th May, 1953 by Shri Kaka Saheb Kalelkar, the Great Gandhian, and based on the Sarvodaya principles of truth and non-violence, the Lok Bharti Gramvidhyapith is an ideal example that shows how basic and higher education can contribute towards solving rural problems practically.

Basic education has to spread to even the lowest rungs of society, and this alone can still instill a sense of humility in people. With this as the foundation, Lok Bharti imparts knowledge to its students which is suitable to the Indian psyche and culture, as well as useful to society at large, Not only is this basic education  given free without any fee, the needy students are also given scholarships.

Shri Nanabhai said that Vidya which is biased, is burdensome, and that Vidya without character is like knowledge of Bramha Rakshas. Therefore, he felt that it was important for students to stay in the campus hostel of Lok Bharti to acquire Vidya with character and fellow feelings.
